Young man and woman die in crash on Canada Way in Burnaby – Global News

A young man and a young woman have died Thursday morning in a crash on Canada Way in Burnaby.
The Burnaby Fire Department says one car was involved in the crash that hit a hydro pole. Evidence markers on the scene suggest the vehicle was travelling westbound before it crossed into oncoming traffic and hit the power pole.
It was a heartbreaking scene for first responders who arrived on scene to discover the crash. It was a very delicate operation involving dozens of RCMP, firefighters and BC Hydro workers as they worked to remove the vehicle as it was pressed against the pole. One of the victims was still inside the car and could not be moved safely while it was up against the pole.
It is believed the two people were the only occupants of the car. They have not been identified at this time but they were possibly in their 20s.
The crash did cause a power outage to 166 homes in the area.
The fire department says high speed may be a factor in the crash but that has not been confirmed at this time.
Canada Way is still closed between Sperling Avenue and Burris Street and is expected to remain closed until about 1 p.m.
