The 190-cover restaurant will combine contemporary cuisine with “cutting-edge” art and design to create a new dining experience. The Coral Reef Room on the restaurant’s lower level will cater for 48-covers.
Head chef Ben Orpwood’s menu will focus on fish and seafood. Orpwood’s career has taken him around the world with his previous experience including stints at Zuma, Toko and the Sydney Collective Group.
Art will play a large role in the design of the restaurant and bar with Damien Hirst creating three site-specific artworks for the restaurant. It will also feature work by Frank Gehry who designed the Guggenheim in Bilbao and the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. The restaurant’s focal point will be a large ceiling mural designed by Michael Roberts, a respected figure in the fashion world.
Laura Montana, new projects operation director at Caprice Holdings, said: “This has been a project very close to owner Richard Caring’s heart. He wants to bring some fun, life and excitement to this corner of Berkeley Square, with the magic mix of a compelling physical environment, full of lively contemporary art, and an alluring menu that will appeal not only to the fashionable Mayfair crowd, but also a wider audience of food and art lovers.”
The restaurant director of Sexy Fish will be Paul Murashe who previously worked at Nobu. David Millière, who most recently worked at Bangkok’s Zuma restaurant, will be the head sommelier and the bar manager position will be filled by Matteo Cazzaniga.
