गुलाम नबी का जन्म कश्मीर के डोडा जिले में सन Mar 7, 1949 को हुआ था इन्होंने अपना राजनीतिक जीवन काफी जल्दी शुरू कर दिया था इनके बातो से मोदी जी भी कई कई बार प्रसन हुए है ये कहते है कि मै अपने आप पर गर्व करता हूं कि मेरा जन्म हिंदुस्तान में हुआ है और हिन्दुस्तानी मुस्लिम हूं।

ये बेहद कम उम्र में भालेसा में ब्लॉक कांग्रेस कमेटी के सेक्रेटरी सन 1973 में बन गए थे ये 1980 में गुलाम नबी जी यूथ कांग्रेस के अध्यक्ष बन गए और वहीं 1982 में नबी लॉ मिनिस्ट्री में डिप्टी मिनिस्टर के पद पर चुने गए और साथ ही साथ आठवीं लोकसभा के लिए 1984 में भी चुने गए और फिर से गुलाम नबी आजाद राज्यसभा 1990 से 1996 तक के सदस्य रहे।

इसके बाद,वे राजनीतिक ऊंचाई पर पहुंच गए,2005 में जम्मू और कश्मीर के मुख्यमंत्री के रूप में शपथ ली और नेता गुलाम नबी वर्तमान में राज्य सभा के सदस्य के रूप में अपने पांचवें कार्यकाल के लिए सेवारत हैं।

गुलाम नबी के पिता का नाम श्री रहमतुल्ला है और इनके माता का नाम Basa Begum है और गुलाब नबी के पत्नी का नाम Shameem Dev Azad है और बेटे का नाम Saddam Nabi और वही उनके बेटी का नाम Sofiya Nabi Azad हैं इनका परिवार Islam धर्म से है और गुलाब नबी साहब के भाई का नाम Ghulam Ali Azad और Ghulam Qadir Bhatt है ।
